Roller derby is a female-dominated sport with more than 500 leagues in six continents worldwide.

A local roller derby league known as the Dallas Derby Devils has gained a community of supporters since emerging on the scene in 2004. From its beginnings in Chicago in 1935, the women’s derby league has spread throughout the nation, finding itself right here in the metroplex.

A little back story

As a nonprofit organization and Women’s Flat Track Derby Association member, the Dallas Derby Devils are credited for bringing flat track roller derby to the Big D. During the resurgence of the sport in 2004, the team brought awareness to the brand, skill to the blade, and community to the people.

The league competes in frequently sold-out home season games featuring their five home teams:

  • The Death Row Rumblers
  • The High Seas Hotties
  • The Slaughterers
  • The Wrecking Crew
  • Rolling Rebellion (Junior team)

The league also has an All-Star team made up of three teams: Army of Darkness (WFTDA Women’s Division Charter Team), Battalion of Doom (WFTDA Women’s Division B Team), and Hellraisers (WFTDA Open / Co-ed Division). This year, the premier league also expanded with the integration of their all-men’s roller derby team, Y’allhalla Roller Derby.

Where do they play?

Currently, games are held at the NYTEX Sports Centre. You can watch them go head-to-head with the Death Row Rumblers on Saturday, July 20. This will be the fourth game of the home season. Tickets can be purchased on their website. Pro tip: Check out the game schedule.
