With less than a 2% chance at the No. 1 draft pick, the Dallas Mavericks defeated the odds by winning the NBA Draft Lottery. If you were planning to test your luck — it seems like now is your chance.
Just for fun, here are five ways to get lucky in Dallas.
Hunt for four-leaf clovers
Pick a park from our guide, and hunker down over a patch of clover. Pro tip: The trick is to lightly run your hand over the clove to separate the leaves.
Go on a date
Don’t look at us like that — luck can be having a really good conversation. Use our local date night guide to break the ice.
Support local rabbit feet
Rabbit feet are lucky, so the North Texas Rabbit Sanctuary must be really lucky. You can also donate or volunteer to support the sanctuary.
Get a sought-after reservation
If luck is in the air, we’re using it to nab a reservation. It’s next to impossible to snag a table at the Zodiac Room. But you can try.
And, of course, catch a game
Maybe some of the Mavericks’ luck will rub off on our other local teams. Bust out that unwashed lucky jersey of yours and catch a game at a local sports bar.

While we’re on the topic of luck today, I realized I don’t really have anything I do to enhance my luck (no unwashed shirts or specific jewelry), but I do have lucky numbers: 1, 5, 23, and 68.
And — real story — one time that I played Powerball, I just let the machine shove some random numbers at me, but the winning numbers for that drawing were 5, 11, 22, 23, and 68...
I could have won $754.6 million. In another lifetime, I’m sitting on a private island right now.
