As California becomes more expensive to live in, filmmakers, actors, and film studios are looking to expand right here in the Lone Star State. Don’t be surprised when you start sharing your favorite local coffee spot with your favorite Netflix star.

Here are four studios producing big-screen magic right here in North Texas.

South Side Studios in Dallas

Located in Dallas, just two miles from Downtown is a large-scale production facility that was the metroplex’s first major film and TV studio. The studio houses two sets: one 70,000 sqft West Stage Building and one approximately 50,000 sqft Support Building.

Super Studios Mansfield in Mansfield

This new studio will be under Creative Tank Inc. The mixed-use facility will include 50,000 sqft of sound stages and 50,000 sqft of wood and production shops in each section. The studio will also feature retail stores, themed restaurants, salons, fitness centers, salons, studios, lofts, multi-family, and two hotels. Gates open in 2025.

Trilogy Studios in Fort Worth

Storytelling comes alive at this full-service production studio. The production company is currently in the midst of building three new stages as well as the largest virtual cinematic LED volume production stage in the state of Texas. Construction for the stages will be completed in 2025.

Merit Street Media in Fort Worth

Talk show therapist Dr. Phil has recently made Cowtown the new home of his production studio for his new media company. The studio opened back in February and since has been the home of “Dr. Phil Primetime”, which premiered on Monday, Feb. 26.

The State Fair of Texas opens its gates on Friday, Sept. 27, but navigating the fair can be overwhelming and packed for anyone who is going for the first time. Here are a few things to keep in mind before the big day.

    Do...

    • Wear comfortable clothing and stay hydrated.
    • Check out our State Fair of Texas 2024: What to know before you go guide for the latest on performances, parking, hours, etc.
    • Plan to arrive early, as parking and traffic can be frustrating. Parking is $30 per space. We also recommend taking either the DART or a rideshare.
    • Bring cash. While many vendors accept cards, some might only take cash.
    • Check out the food winners of the Big Tex Choice Awards.

    Don’t...

    • Bring selfie sticks, tripods, monopods, and similar items. These items are not allowed on fairgrounds without a media pass.
    • Make large signs or props, they aren’t allowed on fairgrounds.
    • Overpack. Keep it light— you will be doing a lot of walking.
    • Bring your pet. Pets are not allowed on fairgrounds unless they are emotional support animals.

I wish I could be able to celebrate Oktoberfest in Germany, but sadly it’s just not in the cards this year. So what’s a good alternative? Let me know some of your favorite places to celebrate in Dallas. Forth Worth will be hosting its very own Fort Worth Oktoberfest this Saturday. Hopefully, I will see you there.
