A $4 billion project is planting roots in Plano, and we’ve got all the details. Time is money, especially when you’re dealing in the billions, so let’s not waste either and dive right in.
Getting started
Last week, Plano City Council approved a $15 million agreement with NexPoint, a Dallas-based development firm, on phase one of a new life sciences facility. It will be located at the 91-acre EDS headquarters, which closed many years ago. This phase brings both demolition and renovations, as a large portion of the main building will be altered while other areas will be cleared for a new pharmaceutical facility.
“The City Council approval is just the first step in a comprehensive plan to develop the Texas Research Quarter into a world-class hub for life science,” said Eric Danielson, managing director and head of real estate development at NexPoint, in a release.
Construction timeline
According to city documents, this project could start as early as October. A project timeline shows demolition crews arriving this fall followed by construction teams in spring 2025. It’s expected to be completed by May 2026.
Zooming out
With a $4 billion price tag, this new facility will transform the previous campus. This includes new research and development facilities and manufacturing plants, all of which will focus on life sciences. In total, these buildings will span 3 million sqft across the whole campus, according to a release.
