A $4 billion project is planting roots in Plano, and we’ve got all the details. Time is money, especially when you’re dealing in the billions, so let’s not waste either and dive right in.

Last week, Plano City Council approved a $15 million agreement with NexPoint, a Dallas-based development firm, on phase one of a new life sciences. It will be located at the 91-acre EDS headquarters, which closed many years ago. This phase alters the main building currently standing + begins the construction of a new pharmaceutical facility.

“The City Council approval is just the first step in a comprehensive plan to develop the Texas Research Quarter into a world-class hub for life science,” stated Eric Danielson, managing director and head of real estate development at NexPoint, in a release.

According to city documents, this project could start as early as October. A project timeline shows demolition crews arriving this fall followed by construction teams in spring 2025. It’s expected to be completed by May 2026.

With a $4 billion price tag, this new facility will transform the previous campus. This includes new research and development facilities and manufacturing plants, all of which focused on life sciences. In total, these buildings will span 3 million sqft across the total campus, according to a release.
