Reunion Tower is turning out the lights on its iconic spinning globe from Oct. 14 through Nov. 17 to reduce the amount of birds killed during their seasonal migration.

A group of volunteers known as Lights Out Dallas found 295 birds that had died while flying through downtown.

While the tower is known for its late-night light shows, it goes dark in the spring and fall to accommodate the birds’ migratory season.

During this time, the tower will begin dimming its lights at sundown before reaching complete darkness by 6am. At that time, the lights will come on, but remain dim until sunrise.
