Garland Square is perfect for a date night or a Sunday fun day with the family.

Downtown Garland has worked on the city’s square for two years to bring more families to the area.

City Editor Maiya, here. I’ve passed through the neighboring city of Garland many times, but never really explored the area — until now. Keep reading to find the perfect way to spend a day downtown in the “Rose of Texas.”

After the reopening of the Square in October 2023, the town — located about 20 miles northeast of Dallas — has since become a place that locally supports innovation and entrepreneurship throughout the community.

Main Street Cafe
Start your day with breakfast at this family-owned restaurant. Known for its delicious food and friendly atmosphere, this is a popular spot for locals looking for comfort meals. Pro-Tip: Arrive early. As mentioned, this is a very popular spot so wait times can be long, get a good spot by getting in early.

Mrs. J’s Heav’nly Delights
Grab freshly baked cookies, candy, and more to fuel your day. The owners love talking to their customers and sharing local favorites around the square. Pro-Tip: Homemade toffee can be found here and any flavor is a must-try item.

Boogie Nights Vintage
Find timeless pieces at this unique vintage store. Plus, enjoy a free margarita as you shop for your next show-stopping outfit. Pro-Tip: Can’t make out? No worries, the store hosts Facebook lives selling many of its vintage finds. You can also shop online on their eBay store.

Now that you have your clothes take them to get tailored at this friendly shop that not only offers quality craftsmanship but encourages children to be creative. From vintage toys to little trinkets, you can meet a friend while you get a few pieces tailored for your next event.

State & Main Merchant
Owned by Texas trio Ellen James, Erica Wise, and Justin Wise, the specialty grocery store is a must-see stop for date night or a night out on the square. Pro tip: Support local and buy a bottle of wine for a picnic at the square — open containers are allowed in downtown.

Metaphysical Way
Learn about the properties of crystals and gemstones and pick up your favorite incense for a natural route for relaxation. Explore the calming benefits of some of these ancient practices and find the perfect items to enhance your well-being.

Infinity Arcade
As a video game lover, this was also a favorite of mine at the Square. This arcade bar offers a variety of arcade games from classics to virtual reality. It’s perfect for date night or a day activity for kiddos.

Intrinsic Smokehouse & Brewery
End your night with good barbecue, handcrafted beer, and live music. Grab a life-changing Brisket Flatbread + head to the rooftop to enjoy live music with a view.

The friendly locals I met helped me plan my route along the way during the day. There’s so much to experience in Downtown Garland. Share your favorite spots in Downtown Garland. Where should I visit next?
