Whether you’re a fellow photographer looking for inspiration for photography or booking your next photoshoot, finding the perfect location for a photo in the Big D can be daunting. So we got to thinking — what are the best places for photos in a huge city like Dallas?

We asked local photographers D’Marcus McDowell and Justin Hoard for the answers.

Deep Ellum

The neighborhood is known for its history of jazz and blues music as well as its art which can be found throughout.

Photog-Tip from Justin Hoard: “ I shoot a lot in Deep Ellum and walk around all East Dallas just learning the area and its characters.”

Bishop Arts

Oak Cliff is known for supporting its creatives. So it’s a no-brainer that it would be on this list.

Photog-Tip from D’Marcus McDowell: “I love going to the Bishop Arts area whenever events are going on, as well as Jefferson Street with the low-riding community.”

West of Dallas

From Trinity Groves to the views on Trinity Levee Trail, there are plenty of photo ops in the area.

Photog-Tip from D’Marcus McDowell: “There’s a neighborhood by Fort Worth on Sylvan Avenue where you can see the entire Dallas skyline.”

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve

Located in Plano, if you are fascinated with nature photos or looking for inspiration, D’Marcus says this park is right up your alley.

Photog-Tip from D’Marcus McDowell: “In Plano, there’s this really great forest park called Arbor Hills Nature Preserve that you can go with anyone that likes to cosplay forest characters.”
