Getting through roadway traffic after arriving at an airport could soon be a thing of the past for some travelers. Dallas-based Southwest Airlines has signed a memorandum of understanding with Archer Aviations, Inc. for electric air taxi networks.

The air taxis would carry passengers more than 50 miles to and from the airport. Archer’s Midnight aircraft is designed to carry five individuals in an air taxi fashion, including the pilot and four passengers, plus their carry-on luggage.

Plans are in development to use the air taxi network in California airports. A date for the operation going live has not been determined, but you can trust DALtoday to keep you updated.

California travelers aren’t the only ones hailing an airborne taxi. Last year, the City of Arlington announced a collaboration with California-based Overair to expand its eVOTL operations in Texas.

The air taxi travel service could eventually provide services for direct flight passengers from DFW to sites like Six Flags Over Texas, Globe Life Field, and AT&T Stadium.
