Awoooooooo-ing once again
Never has science made us say “awwww” so loudly. These pups are just one month old in this photo. | Photo via Colossal Biosciences
In case you don’t have any nerdy “Game of Thrones” or Dungeons and Dragons-loving people in your friend group, allow us to break some news for you — the dire wolf has been brought back from extinction by Dallas-based company Colossal Biosciences.
Colossal was able to revive the species via a “Jurassic Park"-esque process using DNA extracted from a dire wolf’s fossilized tooth and inner ear bone found in different parts of the US. They then compared the extracted DNA genomes with close living relatives, and wham — the dire wolf returns.
The three dire wolves are named Romulus + Remus after the ancient Roman legend and Khaleesi after the “Game of Thrones” heroine. They’re being kept in an undisclosed, 2,000-acre, American Humane Society-certified wild habitat in the northern US.
But why do all of this? To return the species (and others to come) back into the world’s increasingly less diverse food web and develop the ability to protect keystone species in partnership with conservationist organizations and local Indigenous tribes.

Coming Soon
Get ready to chow down — two more popular restaurants are set to open in Dallas’ West Village: Hudson House, known for their cold martinis, and tavern D.L. Mack’s. Both will take up about 5,000 sqft of space and are set to open in late fall. (CultureMap Dallas)
Weather
It looks like we’re getting a nice, easy break from all the rain and thunderstorms that have pelted Dallas of late with sun and low 80s through the weekend. However, the rain is expected to return once we get back into the work week. See what’s coming with WFAA Meteorologist Greg Fields.

Dallas just wouldn’t be Dallas without its smokin’ hot BBQ scene.
We’ve rounded up a list of top-notch local barbecue spots (with all the fixins, to boot). Just make sure you get there nice and early — you know, before the good stuff sells out.
Mesquite BBQ
Family-owned and operated since 1959, Mesquite BBQ was established by Herbet Oyler, the inventor of the world-renowned Oyler rotisserie smoker pit. Try the sandwiches served on Texas toast, meat plates, and Stuffed Baked Potato.
Lockhart Smokehouse
Known for its “damn good BBQ,” this spot smokes its brisket, sausage, ribs, and other meats over Texas post oak. Peep the menu and order your brisket exactly how you like it.
Heim BBQ
Heim bills itself as the “original home of bacon burnt ends” but the Dallas menu is so much more than that — meat plates, burgers, homestyle sides, and sandwiches.
Yeeeehawwwwww — don’t forget to get roped into the American Rodeo Championship this weekend at Globe Life Field and watch some of the fiercest cowboys + cowgirls battle it out over bareback riding, roping, bull riding, steer wrestling, and more.
The winner of the events will win a $1 million grand prize. Imagine all the boots you could buy with that kind of cash.
Hey [First Name], I wanted to personally send you this quick note. I hope you're doing well! Let me know if you have any thoughts on this. Feel free to reply, and we can chat more. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
