Dallas officials announced that Executive Assistant Chief Michael Igo will serve as interim chief of police, replacing Chief Eddie Garcia. Igo will begin the new position on Friday, Oct. 18. (WFAA)
Traffic
Dallas City Council approved a speed reduction from 70 mph to 65 mph on US 75 in an effort to reduce crashes and fatalities. The stretch of highway between Mockingbird Lane to Woodall Rogers Freeway downtown now features signs with the new 65 mph speed limit. (WFAA)
Biz
Director Peter Jackson, of “Lord of the Rings” and “King Kong” fame, invested $10 million in Dallas-based Colossal Biosciences. The company aims to resurrect extinct species such as the wooly mammoth and Tasmanian tiger. (Dallas Business Journal)

SMU football is in the AP Top 25 for the first time this season, at No. 25. Other Lone Star State teams on the list include Texas at No. 1 and Texas A&M at No. 15.

Dallas (No. 5), Fort Worth (No. 9), and Plano (No. 33) rank highly in a nationwide study measuring the amount of real estate development. In the past 43 years, Dallas has added 237,000 multi-family units, which earns the city fourth place behind New York, Los Angeles, and Houston. (Local Profile)

While the 14-day weather forecast is looking comfortable in the mid-80s, WFAA Meterologist Mariel Ruiz said there’s also no rain in the forecast, which is “great for outdoor plans, not great for the increasing drought concerns.”
Opening

Chefs For Farmers returns to Dallas for 14th annual festival

Calling all foodies — Chefs For Farmers is returning for year 14 at Old City Park. Since its founding a decade ago, the event has become a full-on foodie festival that connects the community.
Through its program, Chefs For Farmers has donated over $50,000 to its charity partners in Dallas and Houston, and Dallas’ charity partners include The Seed Project Foundation and Giving Tree Acres.
The three-day wine and food festival will take place in Dallas the weekend of Friday, Nov. 1 through Sunday, Nov. 3 and culminate in The Main Event that Sunday at Old City Park.
