Simply South opened its doors in February 2024.

Popular Indian dishes featured at an Irving restaurant have found themselves on the NY Times’ America’s Best Restaurant list. Simply South cooks up vegetarian southern Indian dishes that bring Dallas residents a taste from around the globe. Since opening in the DFW area in February 2024, the restaurant has already made a name for itself.

Nestled in the home of a former Tex-Mex restaurant on I-635, chefs Venkatesawara Rao Muttavarapu, Manikandan Ramalingam, and Anoop Muraleedhara have made it their mission to bring their Indian culinary techniques and spices to the Irving landscape.

The NY Times’ list of restaurants was curated by editors and food reporters who traveled to nearly every state looking for restaurants with refined menus. This year, the space featured in the restaurants were valued as much as the actual place. When it comes to Simply South, the restaurant is very spacious with both indoor and outdoor seating choices.

The restaurant specializes in rice dishes, southern Indian entrees, vegetarian fried rice, and traditional beverages.

Getting hungry? Some popular dishes include:

  • Paneer Chettinad
  • Gongura Daal
  • Jackfruit Dum Pulao
  • Chilli Garlic Fried Rice

For now, the restaurant only has one location in Irving, but plans are underway to open two other locations: one in Frisco and the other in Illinois.
